Things to do in the Lake District

The Lake District is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of the UK, even Brad and Angelina take their family there on vacation.  It is in the northwest region of England famed for its lakes and forests.  It isn’t one of the playgrounds of the rich and famous like the French Riviera, it is a national park visited by the wealthy and common folk.  If you’re planning a trip to the area and are wondering what to do with yourself here are some things to do in the Lake District.

Getting Back to Nature

The Lake District is constantly voted as one of the best destinations for walking in the UK.  You don’t need to be an avid hiker to enjoy the area, there are trails for every fitness level.  If you are new to the area you can go with a volunteer on a guided walk.  You can do a short stroll and take in the scenery or you can take a back pack and head out for a couple of days.  If you opt for the guided walks they won’t cost you anything, just pack a snack and some water and enjoy the fresh air.


If you want to explore more of the area in a shorter period of time then you should hop on a bike and check out the many biking trails across the district.  The area is perfect for cyclers, whether you want to use a trail bike or a racing bike there is plenty here for you.  If mountain biking is your thing then you will want to head over to Whinlatter or Grizedale Forests and check out the network of trails from the challenging to the easy.  There are lots of hills around here but once you make it to the top the views are fantastic!  If you don’t have a bike don’t worry there are lots of shops where you can rent one while you are here.  Here is a look at some of the trails in the Lake District.

Beatrix Potter

If you have children then they will seeing where the stories have originated.  You can head over to Windemere where Beatrix Potter called Hill Top home, this is where she was inspired to write more than 20 stories.  You can see Mr Mcgregor’s garden where Peter Rabbit lives, find Jemima Puddle Duck in the woodland and have a great time exploring the world of this treasured children’s author.

The Lake District is an amazing part of the country that you definitely need to see.  Bring the family, or get away with some friends and experience the incredible countryside here, you won’t regret it.
